Dual-Credit Science--courses in which students can earn credit for both high school and 6 to 9 semester hours of college credit which will transfer to any state college in Ohio and possibly transfer to private colleges and out of state colleges, too
2003 – 2005 Math and Science Partnership Grant with Canton City Schools
AP Physics (team taught)
Chemistry & Organic Chemistry
Calculus (team taught)
6th grade math (team taught)—received award for doubling proficiency passing rate in one year
• Fairless High School—Developed curriculum maps for science courses that matched proposed changes to state science curriculum standards and aligned with college requirements for dual-credit courses.
o Achievement Highlight: Doubled enrollment in physics course and instituted a dual credit science course which will transfer four semester hours of college lab science credit to any state university.
• Brown Local Schools—Developed and managed the science curriculum that vertically aligned to the state standards; selected materials and textbooks, and directed the science budget so that new materials were made available to teachers as ODE changed standards
o Achievement Highlight: Science standardized test results met or exceeded state standards. School district rose from a “continuous improvement” rating to an “effective” rating.
• Canton City Schools—served as a curriculum mentor through the Math and Science Partnership Grant; working with science and math teachers, curriculum was aligned to state standards for each grade, vertically aligned curriculum maps, created district common assessments, and assimilated intervention strategies for the curriculum based on results
o Achievement Highlight: Sixth grade math proficiency test results doubled during the first year.
